San Elijo State Beach Info
There will be a lot of competition with the general public to get some of the available sites. Be sure to sign up to get an account at Reserve California. Co-ordinate with other retreat goers to make sure you are not trying for the same site. Sites will be available to reserve exactly 6 months from the date you want to reserve (April 18, 2018 = October 18, 2018). Check that you have a clock set to the current EXACT TIME. Log in at 7:50 am, select an available site and put your cursor on “BOOK THESE DATES”. At EXACTLY 8:00 AM (or 1 second before to allow for internet delay) click “BOOK THESE DATES”.
Post a comment to let us know if you were able to get a site.
This will be a discussion topic at the Steering Committee Meeting at the Retreat on Saturday. Come to the meeting and be of service. See the meeting schedule at the retreat for the time and location of the Steering Committee Meeting.
Please create a notification system so we can get notified by email when any site at the desired dates becomes available. Otherwise it becomes nearly impossible to catch a site as soon as it gets cancelled.
The camping reservation system is handled by Reserve California. Currently it does not appear that they have a system for notifying when site reservations are canceled (or construction plans change) and sites become available. The only way we have been able to get notification is by people checking the Reserve California website often to see if sites have opened up and then sending an email to the Surf Retreat Email Messenger at email@example.com. The list manager can then send an email blast to everyone on the email list firstname.lastname@example.org. We have been lucky to find out that sites became available this way a few times but it is hit or miss; no one has time to constantly be checking the website day after day. If you are not on the list please send an email to email@example.com with a subject line of “Add Me To The Clean and Serene List”. The previous reservation system, Reserve America, did have an email notification system but unfortunately Reserve California does not.
Can you send the feedback to Reserve California to please add this notification feature? As you said “no one has time to constantly be checking the website day after day”. Thanks!
I have sent a request to Reserve California. I will post the reply when I get it.
Update 04.08.2018: Reply from CA Parks Customer Service
“Unfortunately we do not have a notification for cancellation, you do have to check it daily for availability or calling our contact center at 1-800-444-7275 to check and make reservations.” There was also no indication that they would be adding that feature. For now it’s check often for availability.
